Letter From the President

Hello All,

… We continue on our journey through the Pandemic. I hope this finds you all mentally well and taking on the challenges that have been put in front of you. Just remember we are all going through this together, and as a club we are there for each other, never be afraid to reach out whether it’s to offer support, request support or just ask a fellow member if they are OK. Although we are a little freer to move around and can even get out to restaurants, country travel etc… please take care, keep practicing social distancing and wash your hands as frequently as possible, we will beat this.

The club has been locked down for several months now, the local police have been using the club house as a base, and several scenarios had been put forward if the Pandemic worsened. Thank goodness it didn’t and all the plans put in place through lockdown were not needed.

However, the board has been busy getting ready for the next season:
If you haven’t read the changes to membership fees, we have included my Facebook post below.
We are replacing the Polaris ATV, creating a cage under the deck to store Nipper boards, looking at new chairs, cabinetry and other extras for stage 2 of the training room/bar area.
Also, we are applying for a security grant which we hope will see an upgrade of the CCTV, security entry etc. but more about that when/if we get approved.

I’d like to reiterate my statement on membership – no family/no individual/no child is to miss out on being a member of Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club due to financial hardship from Covid 19.

Stay well – keep sand between your toes.

A few changes have been made to membership fees for the coming season to ensure we retain as many members as possible, and we continue to grow as a club.

There are 4 major changes:
1/ First and foremost is if any family or individual that are experiencing financial hardship and require reduced or the waving of fees, simply write to the membership manager ([email protected]) or myself ([email protected]) to apply for consideration – we don’t want any person missing on Membership or the Nipper Program because they can’t afford it.
2/ Family Membership – now includes all children up to the age of 25 (was 18). A Working with Children Check is required for all people over the age of 18.
3/ Individual Membership for Actives – was reduced last year to $75, this year it will be further reduced to $50, again all people over the age of 18 must have a WWCC check.
4/ Nipper program fee has been reduced by $10 to $55 per child.

From Monday 31st August membership fees will be open for payment including Nipper fees. We won’t be running a waiting list for Nipper places, no eligible child missed out on a Nipper place in Season 19-20. For membership fee details refer to the link below. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

Just a quick update on the erosion and how the club is fairing. The Enviro Bags seem to be holding up well, we haven't received the perfect storm recently- onshore winds, surging high tide or a king tide etc... so we have been lucky. Also, there has been an increase in sand behind the sand fence in front of the bags, there is around a meter of infill. Council has trigger points at the sides where they will act and move more sand if required, so hopefully we may get through the Winter unscathed.

The Amazon wreck and the road at the RACV club are another matter. The wreck has been exposed further and Wreck Creek has made an opening further up the beach. At the road near the RACV the council has shored up the area with a substantial rock wall which has proven very successful.

Overall, I have received assurances from Bass Coast Shire Council that we are safe and although the findings of the committee are still a year away there are plans in place to act if we are under threat. No news from the State Government at present.
