Letter From the President

Hello All,

Welcome to the new financial year and I optimistically expect that it is going to be a better year for us all. I hope you are doing well in the Pandemic, lock down 2 has been in force for 3 weeks now and our Covid numbers don’t seem to be getting better but I venture to guess they will start reducing soon. I wanted to make sure you are all in good physical and mental health. Do a self-check, it’s OK to not to be OK, we are all going through a lot and sometimes we need support to help cope with the numerous issues that are happening in our lives. Reach out if you do need support, don’t ignore it. LSV have some great support - https://lsv.com.au/healthalerts/ or talk to a board member.

The new board was appointed at the AGM on Saturday night and we had a record 28 people attend – be it virtual. All board members return to their positions with the exception of Ione McKenzie who has stepped down as Competition Direction with our thanks.

An update on projects around the club, although the club is closed through Covid we continue to get ready for the new season and keep moving forward;
  • The Polaris ATV is to be replaced with a newer model
  • A cage is being installed under the deck for Nipper board storage
  • Solar is being installed on the Patrol Tower – this should be completed next Friday
  • New Chairs have been ordered for the training room and we have purchased an Ice machine for the bar
  • A cabinet is due for under the TV which can be used for Presentation Night
  • We have framed and hung an old comp top and the Beijing Olympic Oar over the bar
  • The Liquor Licence has been extended – hours/days – we now have the ability to open from 12 midday and close at 10pm Sunday to Thursday and midnight Friday/Saturday all year round – not that we want to but now have the flexibility
  • We have also applied for a Grant to have the floor resealed in the garage (non-slip)
  • And we are working on further security upgrades – CCTV, re-keying and wrist band entry – more to come on this
I am committed to keeping members up to date with what is happening at the club and keep a clear line of communication from board to membership.

Next summer throws a new set of challenges at us as a board, but I know we will raise to the challenges no matter what restrictions may or may not be in place. Our membership is our strength, and the life savers who stand on the beach and the many volunteers who take on the numerous club positions, we are Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club and together we will get through this together!

Keep sand between your toes
