From the President

I hope this finds you positive and well, and you are either regionally based and are out of lock down and enjoying new freedoms, or you are metro based and are taking the next step into working towards the freedoms that regional are enjoying. We are getting there!

First and foremost, I have to personally thank the Board members that are giving up their time, leaving their families at home, and travelling to Inverloch on LSV permits to ensure the club keeps moving forward and that we are gearing up for the new season. Whether it be preparing IRB motors, first aid supplies, board preparation, nipper materials, maintenance and so many other jobs that must be completed. You are legends and are appreciated by all members.

If you didn’t read my update from the Facebook post there is a COVID update section in this newsletter that will give you the latest information. In short, we now have club CovidSafe Coordinators in place and are preparing a Covid plan which will enable us to prepare the club in readiness to open up for activities. I’ll keep you updated on this and the Covid normal plans we will have in place this season.

On another note we have taken delivery of the new ATV which is having its decals printed as we speak, the upgrade of the training room chairs has been completed and the new presentation cupboard has been installed under the TV. The fascia has been repainted on the club house and there are numerous grants submitted for upgrading the deck, resurfacing the garage floor, replacing the windows, rekeying the club house and replacing the CCTV cameras to name a few projects.

If you haven’t completed the patrol survey yet, please do so as soon as possible. Also be aware there is a new membership renewal system that will be released soon that Chris Malan, our Membership Manager, has been working on which will make renewals more efficient. This has been used at several clubs and it not only streamlines the process but cuts down the admin work. Thanks Chris.

It’s going to be a different season but we are all looking forward to putting the lockdowns behind us and getting out and enjoying the weather.

Keep sand between your toes,

Warren

COVID-19-Image_Light-Box
On Monday 14th September, we attended a briefing from LSV and subsequently followed this up with a board meeting on Thursday17 th. The directive from LSV is to have a COVIDSafe Coordinator/s in place, follow this up with training and create a templated COVID safe plan. Until this is in place clubs are not permitted to open and activities cannot run. The Board appointed myself and Peter Harrison to fill this position and we have completed the necessary training. We hope to have the plan completed as soon as possible - this will be available for all members to view. So, what does this mean for the season ahead? All activities at present will go ahead in some format, however they will look totally different from previous years. Let me try and answer your questions.

Patrols:
Patrols will go ahead. There will be different protocols for each stages of restrictions and this will be published closer to the patrol dates. Cleaning, social distancing, PPE etc... will be all part of this briefing and will be filtered down to Patrol Captains and their teams. If you haven't filled in the patrol survey please do so ASAP as planning is more important this season than ever before.

Bronze Camp:
We are unable to use the club house for accommodation so the Bronze Camp will be run over several weekends. Participants will have to provide their own accommodation and training groups will be limited in numbers - in other words while one group is on the beach the other group maybe doing theory. Dates and further information to come.

Nippers:
Nippers will go ahead but again not the normal. Groups may be limited in numbers, there will be no mass gatherings, age groups may be split in times, presentations will be on the beach and again most likely in age groups. Water safety, IRB crews etc are all being considered. Again, we are in the planning stages - dates and information to come.

Competition:
LSV have cancelled all competition at present but we may be able to hold COVID safe events with local clubs - to be announced.

Presentation Night:
This is unlikely to be able to go ahead and further discussion will take place on this point as the Board wraps our heads around what the future holds.

There are other activities that are also being considered but these are the main questions I have received. Our number one priority is to maintain a COVID Safe environment. We are planning all these events but as you can appreciate this depends on government restrictions at the time and having the man power to make the activities happen. I will give updates as they become available.
