From the President

What a night! The new bar was launched on the 14th Of December to locals and members as a test run for the season, and although the weather was not the best, people enjoyed the view both inside and out and had a great time – if this is any indication of the season ahead we are in for a ripper. A special thanks goes to Peter Sutton who built the bar alongside me and is now our resident handyman, and of course Al and Maurs who stocked the new bar menu and had it all ready to go.

On a more serious note I have never been prouder of our young people who have just completed their Bronze Camp. I presented their caps on the Saturday morning and the room was buzzing with energy. The assessors and I quote “had never seen a more harmonious group who demonstrated superior team work, and passion” plus they had a ball doing it. Now that is a SUCCESSFUL Camp. Thanks goes to all the trainers who we couldn’t hold a camp without – David, Ella, Lucy, Aidan, Jono, Ben and Rachel you guys rock.
It was great to see so many happy faces at requal on the 15th December, the weekend was a buzz with so much activity - the water is warming up and so is the season.
We will be launching the season on the evening of 27th December and I invite Nippers, Parents and Active Members to come along and enjoy each other’s company for what is to be a great night

I am honoured to lead such a great club and have so many great people that volunteer their time.

Keep sand between your toes.

Sand Dune Short Cuts and Club Access

It has been bought to my attention that some members are creating short cuts over the dunes at the back of the club, and also climbing the back balcony to access the club. This is NOT ON. We have the responsibility of keeping the public safe, leading by example and keeping within the guidelines that the Council and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning put forward. Apart from putting yourself at personal risk, you put the club in a situation that we will be taken to task on. We operate with the permission of DELWP, we keep a strong relationship with this body in gaining support and grants, and any member that puts this under threat will be answering to me personally. I implore you to police this as members of the club and instruct any members not to do this. As far as public we are not responsible or able to regulate them.

NYE Tin Rattle - Volunteers Needed

Looking for lots of volunteers to assist at this year's New Year's Eve Tin Rattle, (without stating the obvious) it will be held on Tuesday 31st December 8am to 6pm. On the day meet Peter at LJ Hooker to collect & return tins & to sign Special Events Roster for patrollers. Wear Patrol uniforms or something with ISLSC logo if you have it. The more helpers the more we raise and the easier it is to cover all the locations so please set aside an hour or two to assist. Click on the button below to sign up or contact Peter Harrison on 0400 620 763.

Congratulations and Thank you

Junior Club Captains 2019/20

Introducing our junior club captains for the 2019-2020 Season, Liam O'Brien and Shae O'Connell.

Liam joined the club in 2011 as a Nipper, he has since gone on to complete his SRC, bronze and additional awards. He has assisted with the club run bronze camp the last couple of years and can always be found helping out at nippers.

Shae joined the club in 2016 as a Nipper and has completed her SRC and most recently her Bronze Medallion. Shae is very enthusiastic about taking on this role and working with our younger patrollers.

Both Liam and Shae are super excited about taking on this role and running events for our younger members. If you see them around the club introduce yourself and say hi.

We are still looking for a member to take on the role of Board and Ski Captain, if you’re interested please speak to Rhys or email him at [email protected]

Pink Patrol

Pink_Patrol
On Saturday 25th January we will be holding a Pink Patrol. 2020 marks 40 years since females were permitted to gain their surf Bronze medallion. Pink Patrols have been gaining popularity over the past few years. The mission of a Pink Patrol is as follows “To celebrate the role that females past and present have played in shaping the lifesaving movement and to acknowledge the contribution that our female members have made in helping build operational capacity and provide positive female role models.”
We hope to have as many of our female members join us for a morning of celebration and then spend the afternoon together patrolling the beach. Male champions of change are most welcome to join us.
If you are interested in being on the organising committee for Pink Patrol day, we hope to have representatives from each patrol on board, please let Angela Malan know at [email protected] If you have any questions please speak to Angela or Teagan Thom.

Member Spotlight

Name: Lucy Chambers
How long have you been a member of Inverloch SLSC? 7 years
Why/How did you become involved in surf life saving? My family were already part of the club so when I emigrated here from Scotland and told me I had to join too as a way to get to know people and the Australian way of life!
What is your role at the Club? And what does it involve? I'm the nippers coordinator. It involves a lot of planning of the season ahead and then organising all the 200+ volunteers before nippers starts, and then during the program, making sure it all goes according to the original plan!
I'm also running the social side of nippers after hours which I am hoping to find someone else to run - let me know if you are keen!
What do you love most about being at the beach? Seeing everyone have a great time. Knowing the children - mine included- are safe and happy.
What do you do outside of life saving? I'm a single mum of 2 lovely children - one in u6s and one doing SRC this year. I work as a "high risk foot" podiatrist at the Alfred & Caulfield Hospitals, so I'm not squeamish!! During the winter, I'm the trainer for my daughters footy team.
Tell us something interesting about yourself? I have recently adopted a greyhound, so spend my free time walking her and am on a mission to get her a ISLSC outfit this season!

Patroller of the Month

It's great to have 'Safety People Australia' onboard to help us recognise the standout efforts of our patrollers throughout the season.

The Patroller of the Month award aims to recognise individuals for going above and beyond. Nominations for the patroller of the month will be provided by the Patrol Captains and Mentors, with Patroller of the month recipients also being nominated for Patroller of the year.
