From the President

The new season approaches and we welcome a new face on the board, David Morris as Competition Director, and we farewell Ione McKenzie with our thanks for her service.

One of the most important contributions you can do as a club member is to consider taking up one of the many positions that helps run the club. The club doesn’t run itself, it takes committed people both on the beach and in the club house to make it successful. The more people that put their hands up the more we can share the load.

So, I ask every member to consider how they can assist in the running of the club and what they can contribute to make it better.

The Expressions of Interest below are only the beginning of the roles available, it doesn’t take a lot of time if you can see yourself in taking on one of the many positions.

On a positive note a few things that have been happening around the club:
The Polaris has been replaced
Solar has been fitted to the Patrol trailer
A new cage has been fitted under the deck for Nipper board storage
A surf cam is being fitted to the club
New chairs for the training room are soon to be delivered
Presentation side board for under the TV
A heap of grants have been applied for
And hip hooray the pump has been found to be the issue of poor water pressure in the garage – we are back in business!

I have put a COVID update following, we are getting through this, and we will be stronger because of what we have lived through.

As we head into the upcoming season, we are looking at COVID numbers reducing, thank goodness, but can only guess what the new season will look like. Will there be a Bronze Camp? In what format will Nippers take place? When can training commence? When can we run requal? What is the timing for gear inspection? When will we be able to travel to Inverloch?

Like you these are all questions we as a board are asking ourselves and working on different scenarios. But at present I ask that you be patient and wait to see what government guidelines we will be operating under – only then can we make these calls. We are a great club and a nimble club, we can act very quickly on the different stages that are presented to us. To date we have been in front of the calls made by LSV, ensuring member safety.

One thing I know for sure is that we will be patrolling the beaches this season. I ask that all active members who will be patrolling this year fill out the survey ASAP and join as a member. We need to be readier than we have ever been in previous seasons due to the environment we find ourselves in. Personal Protection Equipment will be a high priority throughout the season, as well as social distancing and working to a strict COVID protocol.
Other areas of concern are being addressed and will be discussed as they become available.

To Nipper parents we are holding back Nipper enrolments as late as we can, so you will be able to make a conscious decision knowing what the season will deliver. If Nippers will go ahead, in what format, and if it does, when – a lot of unknowns! We will get this information out as soon as practical.

I have received a few calls regarding holiday home rentals and my thoughts – at present my crystal ball is as good as yours. Thank you for your patience.

In times when things get tough, we need to be there for each other, support each other, find ways to connect with each other. As a club we need to dig deep.

Lifesaving Operations Committee (LSOC)

Hi All, it is that time again already. I don’t know what has happened to the ‘off season’ but things have been busy trying to plan for this coming season. We understand that with the current and ever evolving situation around COVID that the way we will be patrolling the season will look different. We will be taking every precaution we can including appropriate PPE and other requirements as per LSV guidelines.

To get things rolling and ensure that we continue to provide for the community keeping them safe I am seeking expressions of interest for the following Lifesaving Operations Committee (LSOC) positions.

  • Patrol Manager - Responsible for managing patrol rosters and ensuring that patrols run smoothly. (An excellent role for anyone aspiring to or considering being a future Club Captain).
  • IRB Captain - Responsible for managing all IRBs and motors.
  • First Aid Officer - Responsible for all first aid equipment and the first aid room.
  • Gear Steward - Responsible for ensuring all club equipment is looked after over the season and is ready for our upcoming gear inspection.
  • Board and Ski Captain - Responsible for all the clubs boards and ski's.
  • Radio Officer - Responsible for maintenance of club radios
Don’t be daunted these positions are a great way to become more involved in the club’s operational activities and great opportunities to expand on your own skills.

Patrol Survey

With the summer fast approaching us, we need you to start thinking if you intend to patrol this season and we also need you to fill out the patrol survey so we know what your plans for the 2020/21 season are. Even if you are not planning to patrol this season please let us know why.

If you want to be a member of the Patrol Leadership Team (PLT) let us know that too. Please complete the survey via the link below by September 18th.

Training Committee

We are seeking expressions of interest for the following Training committee positions. If you are interested in any of the positions below or have further questions regarding them please contact Tarryn Thom, Chief Instructor at [email protected]

  • Kew Bronze Camp Head Trainer- responsible for the running of the Kew Bronze Camp
  • Inverloch Bronze Camp Head Trainer- responsible for running the Inverloch Bronze Camp
  • SRC Head Trainer- responsible for running the SRC Course
  • Head First Aid/ART Trainer- responsible for organising First Aid and ART Training
  • Head IRB Trainer- responsible for coordinating IRB Driver and Crew Training
  • Assistant Chief Instructor- supports the Chief Instructor to manage the coordination of the Training Committee, management of training equipment and resources

Membership & Leadership Development Positions

Nipper Coordinator, Expression of Interest
The Nipper Coordinator role involves developing and coordinating the nipper program for the Inverloch SLSC and as such activities will be provided in an inclusive manner. The role aims to develop future surf lifesavers in a positive, enriching and nurturing environment. If you are interested in taking on this fun and rewarding position for the upcoming season or would like further information please contact Teagan Thom at [email protected]

Member Profiles, Expression of Interest
This season we would like to profile members of our club on our social media in a short and sharp interview. We are looking for a member to take on the role of coordinating this. The aim is to engage members by developing member profiles to be distributed on Facebook and Instagram.

Competition Committee

Lifesaving Competition is a great way to improve your fitness, meet other members of the club and enjoy another side of lifesaving. We are seeking expressions of interest for the following Competition committee positions. If you are interested in any of the positions or require further information please contact David Morris at [email protected]

Team Managers

One per Team:
  • Summer Junior competition team
  • Summer Senior Competition team
  • Winter IRB Competition team
Role: The Team Managers will be responsible for the logistical aspects of competition endeavours
Knowledge and skills required: Able to organise and delegate tasks and communicate effectively

Team Coaches

One per Team:
  • Summer Junior competition team
  • Summer Senior Competition team
  • Winter IRB Competition Team
Role: The Team Coaches will be responsible for the learning and development of skills required for competition
Knowledge and skills required: Holds current LSV appropriate level qualifications for Active Membership and Level 1 coaching qualifications relevant to lifesaving

Clothing/Uniform Manager

We are looking for expressions of interest from one or two people to take on the position of Clothing Manager for the 2020/21 Season.

Previous experience in a uniform shop or clothing store would be advantageous but not essential. What you will need is good organisation skills and be people friendly.
You will also need to be “on deck” throughout the Nipper Program and specified weekends from December to Easter to oversee sales of Patrol Uniform and Club Apparel.
Working closely with the Treasurer and past incumbents, guidance will be on hand if needed.

Membership Renewals

At this point in time membership renewals are on hold pending advice from Life Saving Victoria. We are hesitant to open up applications for Nippers, Bronze camp and SRC until we know what restrictions will be in place and what programs will be able to run. We will notify you as soon as we know.

Applications for membership for patrolling members will be open shortly, notification will be emailed to all last season's active members. The fees for season 20-21 are listed below, noting that the board voted to reduce fees this season to support the membership.
