From the President

Hello, we find ourselves in extraordinary times with the emergence of the Corona virus and the subsequent government steps that have been put in place. I have been on a state-wide president briefing with LSV and a follow up meeting with our board to ensure our members health and well-being are paramount, and that all operational issues are addressed, questions answered and protocols put in place.

As a club we have been a step ahead of the game with the protocols we put in place last week, and will continue these practices until further notice. All Patrol Leadership Team members should have now made themselves aware of the First Responder Information Sheet available on line: https://lsv.com.au/wp-content/uploads/First-Responder-Checklist-V7-13032020.pdf

LSV has released the following directive:
“At present time, our emergency response search and rescue activities, including our lifesaving patrol service at beaches across the state, will continue with additional protective measures.”

Unfortunately, we have decided to put the Presentation Night on hold at Easter and to cancel the SRC/Rookie trivia night. These activities have been deemed non-essential, as is training and other activities around the club. On a positive note we are planning Presentation night will be held in December as a season opener and a celebration of getting through the next several months together.

We recognise communication is critical in this time of uncertainty and as information becomes available to us you can be assured that it will be passed on to our members via Facebook or newsletters as soon as practical.

We encourage all members to monitor their health and well-being and also look out for people in your networks who fall into the “high-risk” demographic groups, including those aged 65+.

We acknowledge how difficult this year has been for our lifesaving and the wider community, following the bushfires and now with the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We as a Board would like to thank all our members for your continued efforts and commitment. We are all in this together and we will emerge stronger for what we are going through.

Please take care of yourselves and those around you. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to approach myself or a board member or contact me on 0413 613 407

Important Patrol Operations update

The following are guidelines regarding patrols and operations at the club in light of the ever changing COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Please familiarise yourself with the first responder information
  • Keep up to date with the latest information from LSV, updated regularly via the link below:
  • Until further notice club house accommodation will be restricted to a maximum of 2 people per room.
  • Patrol trailer limited to a maximum of 2 people.
  • Please ensure that before, during and after patrol we are cleaning all the radios, benches (tower and club garage) commonly used door handles with appropriate wipes.
  • There is hand sanitiser located in the tower, gloves/masks in the tower and first aid room.
  • Radios are not to be shared and are to be wiped down at the end of each day, including the harness and bag
  • Please ensure that the club is kept locked up at all times as unfortunately people are stealing resources from hospitals and other locations which may include the club house.
  • Patrol dinners are no longer appropriate with the current situation. We can continue with patrol lunches instead as these can be organised in a manner which complies with all of the requirements of good hygiene and social distancing.
  • Please bring appropriate clothing for patrol – the Deck Coats will no longer be available to wear as these can’t be kept clean. The preference is that you wear appropriate Patrol uniform with any other items worn underneath if required to keep warm.
    • Now is also a great opportunity to purchase yourselves one of the waterproof patrol jackets (pictured below). Orders placed before close of business Monday should unless further effected by COVID-19 arrive at the club by next weekend.
    • Orders can be placed here - https://islsc.org.au/product/patrol-jacket-waterproof/
    • For any other uniform order questions please contact either Ione or Rosemary at [email protected]

Ultimately please remember that if you are concerned that you may have contracted COVID-19 or are not comfortable with continuing on patrol that is ok. We just ask that you please let your respective Patrol Captain’s know so that we can ensure we maintain our minimum patrol requirements.
