Letter From the President

To the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club Family,

I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones well. As Victoria and the wider Australian community bunkers down and tackles the Coronavirus pandemic we find ourselves in an ever-changing environment. This Pandemic will be felt within the community for some time yet.

I attended an LSV Presidents meeting last night which advised that a press release was sent out today stating that Life Saving clubs will be closed from this weekend and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) beach patrols and all non-essential activities at clubs will cease. The message was very clear - stay at home. The press release advised people not to go swimming at this time, if they choose to go swimming they do so at their own risk. So that’s it for the season, an unexpected end but no great surprise with the way circumstances have been changing.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all lifesavers and members for their dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety of beach goers at Inverloch in what has been a challenging 2019-20 season. Many people work behind the scenes to make our club great to be around - from the Nippers Program, Bronze Camps, the growing Comp team, bar and kiosk, IRB team, from trainers to assessors and more - you are the heart of our club and you rock!!! In particular I'd personally like to thank the board who have been a great support in my first year as President and a pleasure to work with this season where we had some major projects to deliver.

The health and safety of our members and volunteers are always top of mind and I implore everyone to take note of the directions from the government so we can get through this Pandemic all healthy and ready to take on the upcoming summer.

As a club we are reporting back to LSV on the impact of Covid-19 on members.

We are asking everyone to follow a Notification Process and report the following, please reply to this email.
- Self isolation due to at risk categories
- Self isolation due to family that are ill
- Close contact with Covid-19
- Confirmed Covid-19 cases

All information will be treated as confidential.
This will allow the club to report on any exposure within our ranks plus deliver a follow-up and support program.

For anyone who is finding times difficult we are all going through this together. Reach out to fellow members through Zoom, FaceTime or other platforms. Over the coming weeks there are initiatives being worked on to assist in staying connected, some opportunities and resources - stay tuned for these. Get a project, paint the house, learn guitar, whatever gets you through....

Members can also look to "Beyond Blue's advice on looking after mental health during the coronavirus outbreak" and its tips on how to manage mental health while in self-isolation or quarantine.

Check in with your friends and family to see how they are going as this is a very difficult time for everyone. If you have questions or concern please don't hesitate to contact any of our board members. Thank you for your support - look after your well-being and health.

Keep sand between your toes - but with 1.5 meter spacing ;-)
