Bar Supporter Newsletter

Hello,

I hope this finds you well and looking forward to the opening up of Victoria this Summer. First off let me start by thanking you for your support over the past 12 months as an Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club Bar Supporter. We continue to successfully run as a club and support the community through the financial input of our memberships, our loyal sponsors and government grant funding.

The Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club puts thousands of man hours patrolling the beach each year. We also run our Nipper program which educates over 200 children aged between 6 and 14 years of age which will become our lifesavers of tomorrow. We run a Surf Rescue Certificate, two Bronze Camps and of course the many training sessions that are held at the club to keep our club’s volunteers’ qualifications current. On average the club qualifies over 50 new life savers each year, and has a volunteer list of over 200 active members who give up their time to patrol our beach.

We have the public covered for safety throughout Summer. Through the patrol season we have a rescue boat (IRB), driver and crew ready at the drop of the hat, we have first aid, spinal and resuscitation trained people ready when they are needed, and a team of fully trained life savers with their eyes on the water. Of course, we promote swimming between the flags, however we have roving patrols that keep an eye on the beach from Flat Rocks to Pensioner Point.

The past year has been challenging and as an organisation we are coming out the other end of this pandemic with positivity and hope for the future. We will follow the government's requirements that all patrons that visit the bar must be fully vaccinated. As an organisation we mandated vaccination in October for all members. Vaccination not only protects you from contracting Covid-19, but also protects your loved ones and the community as a whole, and gets the country back on track.

UPDATE ON THE CLUB

Over the winter we have been busy, we have replaced the deck (looks fantastic), put in an external bar table and seating outside the kitchen window, replaced the windows in the club, updated the CCTV system (now with a live beach view that you can log into), upgraded the Nipper BBQ trailer, renovated the mobile patrol tower, replaced the under roof on the deck, put a new POS system on the bar and new wifi. And of course, we are well into the planning of the upcoming season. We have been busy; the club is looking fantastic and we are ready to welcome members back.

EROSION

The erosion of the dunes continues to be a priority for the club and the council. I was disappointed (to say the least) to discover that the recommendations of the government committee have been delayed till at least March. I have been putting as much political pressure on the committee that I can and we are looking at supporting the “Rally Around The Dunes” in January to make a community/public/media statement. As further information becomes available, I will share it with you – this continues to be a major concern for the club and the community in general.
