From the President

Well, here we are, another season and we are up and running. Congratulations to all that completed their Bronze over the past few weeks – we look forward to seeing you at patrols and standing along-side some of our long serving members. Nippers are about to hit the water and I look forward to seeing those happy enthusiastic faces on the sand - our future life savers!

You’ll notice a few changes around the club, we have been busy during Covid making sure maintenance is complete and projects are on track. Remember although we are out of lock down you still need to scan the bar code when entering the club and ensure you follow protocols when attending the Nipper Program.

We have the new fob system for security – you can now get a fob for clubhouse access (more info below).

On behalf of the board I’d like to wish you all a very Merry Xmas and stay safe over the Xmas Period – see you on the beach.

Wasa
Keep sand between your toes.

Season 21-22 Opener

Catch up at the bar on December 27th from 5.30pm. It’s our seasoner opener where hopefully as many members as possible will attend to toast Christmas and the official beginning of the holiday period. Meet the club Board of Management, get the answer to any questions you may have about the club and enjoy our amazing sunset – hope to see you there.

Calamari & prawns, dumplings, and twisty potatoes. Keep an eye on the club socials, Facebook and Instagram, for more info.

Skills Maintenance Session

Skills Maintenance / Re-Qualification Day – Monday 27th December 2 sessions available – 1pm-3pm & 3pm-5pm

All Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate holders need to re-qualify their awards for the 2021/2022 season.

What is re-qual and what does it mean?
Re-qual is short for requalification. Each year surf lifesavers are expected to re-qualify their awards so that they are confident in their abilities to keep themselves, their fellow members and the public safe during the season.
It is mandatory to re-qualify if you plan on returning to the club this season. If re-qual is not completed by the 31st Dec 2021, you are unable to patrol or provide water safety after this time.

Awards that you can re-qualify are:
  • - Bronze Medallion / Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
  • - Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART)
  • - Inflatable Rescue Boat Crew/Drivers (IRBC/IRBD)
  • - Side-By-Side Vehicle (SSV) – formerly ATV
Please register via mt.lsv.com.au to book a place in this session and to complete your online learning prior to the day. Places are limited and only candidates who have pre-registered will be able to complete their skills maintenance. Further information available here: Skills Maintenance Info.

Pink Patrol

Pink Patrol will be held on the 15th of January 2022
There will be a morning tea commencing at 10:30am including a guest speaker!
We would then love to see as many female and male patrollers joining us for an afternoon of patrolling fun.
If you are interested in helping to organise the day please contact Teagan Thom: [email protected]

What is a Pink Patrol?
A Pink Patrol consists of active female patrolling members forming an all-female (and/or a combined patrol with male champions of change) patrol on one day of the patrol season and designating it as a Pink Patrol.

The aim of this initiative is to acknowledge and celebrate the many contributions females past and present have played in lifesaving, as well as inspiring and empowering future generations of females and girls through positive role modelling and building capacity through skills and confidence.

The powerful visual of female leaders forming a full patrol is symbolic of the growth and capability of our female members; illustrating that females are competent lifesavers and building the diversity of lifesavers in active lifesaving roles and leadership.

Two bronze camps have just finished at the club. The Kew Secondary College camp and the club bronze camp.
