Bronze Camp is usually held in the 1st or 2nd week of December each season. The camp is a great opportunity to learn new skills, develop new friendships and get fit. The camp is held at the ISLSC clubhouse and is live-in and fully catered. To be eligible to participate you must be 15 years of age or older by the start of the camp and be able to swim 400 metres in a pool without stopping in less that 9 minutes.
You will be trained in fitness, water work, first aid and resuscitation through scenarios, theory and practical work. The camp leaders are qualified training officers from within the club. Supervision will be provided at all times with appropriate water safety provided during water work.
On Saturday morning the assessment will be held at the Inverloch Surf Beach and all parents are welcome to come along and support the team as they go through the examination. The exam tests all the theoretical knowledge you have learnt over the week such as first aid, signals, resuscitation, patient carry techniques, patient assessments, radio communication, as well as all the practical components such as run-swim–runs, rescue techniques on board and tube, a number of different scenario’s and surf awareness. On successful completion you will be awarded the Bronze Medallion and will be able to join a beach patrol team. Presentation of uniforms are held after the assessment session.
