President’s Message
Hey Team,
As we transition through winter, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work of our Board, SLT and other key volunteers during the off-season. Their hard work has been instrumental in preparing for the 2024/25 season.
Our recent “100 Hour Plus Celebration” at Cape Paterson SLSC was a proud moment. We honoured those who achieved over 100 voluntary patrolling hours during the 2023/24 season, showcasing the commitment of our members—special congratulations to all our dedicated patrollers for their remarkable service.
Our IRB race team also deserves recognition for their performance in the winter competition. Competing in challenging conditions, our team showed tremendous growth and resilience—special thanks to our team manager, coach, and dedicated officials and support team.
Looking ahead, membership renewals are now open, and I’m pleased to announce that fees will remain unchanged for the fourth consecutive season. This stability is essential, but we also need your volunteer support for fundraising activities to maintain our high service levels.
We’re excited to open enrolments for our Nippers Program and the inclusive Starfish Program on August 1st. These programs provide essential surf education and life-saving skills for our young members at Inverloch Surf Beach.
Finally, mark your calendars for our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, August 3rd, at 5:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Your participation is crucial as we vote for positions for the upcoming season.
For further information about our season calendar and upcoming programs, please visit our website and follow us on social media. Your engagement and support are what make our club thrive.
Warm reading!
Best Regards,
Glenn Arnold
ISLSC President
100 Hour Plus Celebration at Cape Paterson SLSC
We were proud to celebrate those who achieved over 100 voluntary patrolling hours during the 2023/24 surf lifesaving season. Hosted by all Bass Region Presidents, Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club joined others from Cape Paterson, Venus Bay, Waratah Bay, Wonthaggi, and Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Clubs in recognising this significant milestone, with several special guests from each of these clubs in attendance.
Our dedicated patrollers—James Harman, Jackson Comrie, Isabella Perich, Joshua Robinson, Charlotte Smith, Madeline Smith, Elke Pearson, Zoe Davies, Mathias Twomey-Mueller, Lily Comrie, and Nelson Karutz—received heartfelt congratulations.
Special recognition was given to Montana Kranen, from Waratah Bay, who patrolled the most hours in the Bass Region with an impressive total of 243 hours. Additionally, Cape Paterson SLSC was congratulated for achieving the highest average patrol hours across all patrollers in the Bass Region, with an average of 36.1 hours. It was a very close race, with Inverloch coming in second by just a 0.2-hour difference.
The event was held on 8th June, and we thank all our patrollers for their dedication and commitment to keeping our beaches safe!
Winter Competition Comes to a Close
As the winter season wraps up for Inverloch, our IRB race team has a lot to be proud of. Competing in four different events, a large proportion of our members raced in new roles or for the first time, showcasing their dedication and growth. This season has been an incredible journey, filled with both challenges and triumphs.
The Athletes competed in 4 rounds; Hampton, Ocean Grove, Anglesea and the State Championships held in Lorne. With challenging conditions, both in the surf and cold chilly winds on the beach, the team kept their spirits high and continued to represent the club with pride.
We recently celebrated our IRB Awards Night, where the top performers were recognised for their outstanding efforts. Special recognition went to our team manager, Brydie, and coach, David, as well as our dedicated officials and support team, who received Competition Support Recognition Awards for their invaluable contributions.
As we look forward to next season, we are excited to build on this year’s successes and continue developing our skills and team spirit. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout the season—your encouragement means the world to us.
Here’s to another great season ahead!
Xavier Korbel
Competition Coordinator
Membership Details for Season 24/25
Membership renewals are now open for the new season. Great news! The Board is happy to announce that membership fees will not increase for the fourth consecutive season. However, this decision means we will need more volunteer support for our fundraising activities to ensure we can continue offering the same level of service and programming. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Membership info can be found on the website here. Contact membership@islsc.org.au if you have any questions.
Inverloch SLSC Nippers Program: Enrolments are opening soon!
We are excited to announce that enrolments for the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) Nippers Program and the inclusive Starfish Program will open in 1st August. These popular programs offer valuable surf education and life-saving skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Nippers Program
The Nippers Program runs intensively over two weeks after Christmas at Inverloch Surf Beach. This condensed format ensures a strong focus on surf education and enjoyable activities.
Our program aims to teach children surf safety awareness, surf skills, lifesaving techniques, teamwork, and some competitive skills. Participants will learn to identify beach hazards, such as rips, and gain basic knowledge of resuscitation and first aid. We follow the Life Saving Victoria (LSV) Junior Development Awards, ensuring a structured learning experience.
Starfish Program
The Starfish Program, designed for children with special needs, runs alongside the Nippers Program. It offers the same intensive surf education and fun activities in a supportive environment.
Key Details
- Enrolment Period: August 1st to November 30th, 2024 (unless filled prior)
- Program Dates: Two weeks after Christmas
- Location: Inverloch Surf Beach
To secure a spot for your child in the 2024/2025 Nippers or Starfish Program, please complete an Expression of Interest form starting August 1st. Spaces are limited and tend to fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Click here and follow the links to register: https://islsc.org.au/lifesaving/education/
We look forward to welcoming your children to another exciting season of surf education and fun at Inverloch SLSC. For more information and to enrol, please visit our website or contact us directly.
AGM 2024 – Save The Date
The Inverloch SLSC Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday, 3rd August, at 5.30 pm at the Clubhouse. Members will shortly receive notification of the process for voting for positions for season 24/25.
Foodworks Donation
We’re thrilled to announce that we received a cheque for $826.89 this month! Our cheque was the largest, with the primary school receiving a similar amount. Other groups like the Lions and Scouts received between $100-$250.
We’d like to remind all members to sign up or get a new loyalty card and use it. This is essentially free money for our club, so let’s make the most of it! We’ll include a reminder in the next newsletter and send one out before nippers start.

Inverloch Lions Club Donation
Earlier this month we were also fortunate to receive a kind donation of $200 from our local Lions Club at their annual changeover dinner, welcoming their new club president. A big thank you and welcome to new Lions Club president Max and his fellow members for their ongoing support for our club.
EOFY Charitable Giving
June is very clearly the month of giving, as we’ve seen from both Foodworks and the Lions Club. As we race toward the end of the financial year on June 30, did you know that donations over $2 to our club are tax deductible? If you are thinking of making a donation, you can do so here. Thank you all for your support.
