President’s Message
As we prepare for the 2026–27 season, there is plenty happening around the Club.
Recently, our Board and Senior Leadership Team came together for our annual Planning Day. It built on the detailed review we completed at the end of last season, looking honestly at what worked well, where we can improve and, importantly, what we can realistically deliver this year.
Last season gave us a very strong platform. Our patrol, training and Nipper programs continued to perform well, our facilities improved, and once again an enormous amount was achieved through the efforts of our volunteers. Our season review also highlighted some areas where we need to keep improving.
This season we want to place greater emphasis on developing future Patrol Captains and leaders, improving communication with patrolling members, planning training earlier, strengthening engagement with our younger adult members and creating more opportunities for members to connect socially with the Club.
We are also looking at some exciting new opportunities. Inverloch has been selected to participate in a new youth program from LSV, providing another pathway for our 13 to 17-year-old members to become more involved in leadership and club life. We are also exploring initiatives for our older members and the community, a concept with a range of social activities across the season.
Behind the scenes, we are continuing to look at how our Board, SLT and committees work together. One of the strongest messages from our planning process was that good ideas are only useful when somebody owns them and gets them done. That will be an important focus for us this year.
The coastal reconstruction project is also approaching its final stages. Unfortunately, our planned Community Dune Planting Day had to be postponed while construction continues, but we look forward to bringing the community together for that project once the site is ready.
There is a lot ahead of us, but we have a strong team and a clear direction.
Most importantly, we want members involved. If you see an activity, program or opportunity that interests you, put your hand up. Our Club will continue to be successful because people choose to contribute, not because a small group tries to do everything.

LSV Junior Lifesaver of the Year – Winner
Congratulations to Morrie Tatnall who was awarded Junior Lifesaver of the Year at the recent Life Saving Victoria Awards of Excellence. A huge achievement for Morrie, and fantastic statewide representation for the Club. We cannot wait to see what you achieve this year. Well done Morrie!
ILSAR Program Sign Ups Open
Registrations are now open for ILSAR 2026, Inverloch SLSC’s multi-agency search and rescue program for young lifesaving leaders on the Bass Coast; and winner of SLSA and LSV Innovation of the Year.
ILSAR gives youth and young adult members the chance to put their lifesaving skills into practice in realistic, scenario-based search and rescue exercises alongside other emergency services. Rather than theory alone, candidates work through simulations designed to mirror real incidents, building the coordination, communication, and decision-making skills that matter when it counts.
This year’s program brings a few exciting firsts. LSV Rescue Watercraft (jetskis) will be on scene, with participants able to crew and take part in scenarios involving them. Candidates will also have the opportunity to achieve their Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue as part of the program, alongside dedicated sessions with various emergency services.* And for the first time, ILSAR is opening its doors beyond Inverloch, with members from Cape Paterson and Venus Bay invited to take part alongside our own, mirroring the cross-club coordination we see in real incidents.
The program runs as a residential camp from 30 September (10am) to 3 October (4pm) 2026, based at Inverloch SLSC. The cost is $275 per person.
To take part, candidates must currently hold a Bronze Medallion and have a good patrolling history. IRB Crew / Drivers, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques and First Aid are recommended but not required.

Operations Update
A message from your Club Captain
I genuinely believe this is going to be our best season yet.
Going into 26/27, my focus is clear: building an incredible culture at our club, one where every person feels supported, valued, and set up to do their best work on and off the beach. Because when we get the culture right, everything else follows. Strong teams, better patrols, and a club that thrives not just because of what we do, but because of how we do it and how we look out for one another along the way.
I’m personally passionate about supporting the people I volunteer alongside, creating an environment where everyone can step up and thrive, and watching this club grow because of the standard we set together.
I want you to know my door is always open. Whether you’ve got feedback, an idea, need a hand with something, or just want a sounding board to talk something through, I’d love to hear from you. Don’t hesitate to shoot me an email anytime.

Have Your Say: Patrol Survey for the 2026/27 Season
As we gear up for the 2026/27 season, we want to hear from you! Our patrol roster is nearly ready to be set, and now it’s time to fill it with all of our amazing patrollers.
Whether you’re a seasoned patroller, new to the beach, or a parent or guardian supporting a patrolling member, your input matters. This short survey (10–15 minutes) is your chance to:
- Allocate yourself to a patrol for the season
- Tell us what would make patrols a better experience, from communication and team culture to feeling supported and valued on the beach

Training Update
The 2026/2027 Training season at Inverloch SLSC is now starting up, with some important admin and planning for training already underway.
As the admin work starts for all courses, keep an eye out for opportunities to get involved. Whether that be gaining a new qualification or helping out on a course, there will be plenty of opportunities to upskill and lend a hand.
I am looking forward to another amazing and productive year in training and working with an amazing team to bring the courses you all know and love to Inverloch members and the community this season.

The Training Committee is extremely important for the success of courses and training at Inverloch. In order to be able to run so many courses, we need leaders who are passionate about training with a tenacity for problem solving and light admin.
The above structure details the roles in the training committee and head trainer roles for all courses this season. They are all vacant and we need you to apply!

Bronze Course Registrations Now Open
The annual Inverloch Bronze Course is now open for registrations as of September 1st! Get in quick, as there are only 22 spots available!
If you are aged between 14 and 15 and interested in becoming a lifesaver, learn important first aid skills, join a patrol or upskill from your SRC then this is the award for you! It is an opportunity to make new friends, sleep over at the clubhouse and dip your toe into the world of lifesaving.
Dates: December 6th – December 12th

Surf Rescue Certificate Registrations Open
The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) course registrations are now open! The SRC course is the perfect introduction to patrolling and lifesaving beyond nippers, as you learn important surf rescue techniques, CPR and patrolling methods.
Dates: 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st December & 3rd, 4th January. 9:30am – 2pm daily.

After School Nippers SRC Course Registrations Open
If you are a parent, guardian, sibling or friend of an After School Nipper, then this course is for you!
We are offering a Surf Rescue Certificate Course to all of those able to help out and water safety in the term 4 and term 1 after school nippers program. With the surf rescue certificate you will learn rescue techniques, resuscitation and basic lifesaving knowledge allowing you to water safety and patrol.

Inverloch SLSC is excited to be running our After School Nippers program in Term 4! This mid-week program is perfect for families looking to stay active and connected outside of the traditional summer season.

- Followed by a family BBQ from 5:45 – 6:15 PM

This season is going to be exciting for the ML&D space. I have an exciting BRAND NEW program that is coming to the table, which hopefully will be announced in the next newsletter!

Youth Symposium
The LSVj Youth Symposium returns in 2025 with a dynamic, action-packed agenda designed to inspire, challenge, and empower lifesavers aged 13–17. The day includes challenges, workshops and more designed by youth for youth. Including SPECIAL GUEST Dean Gladstone from Bondi Rescue
If you are interested in making friends from around the state and are passionate about developing your leadership skills or learning more about opportunities in lifesaving this could be the day for you.
Hosted on Saturday, 25 October at LSV Head Office this full-day event blends fun, teamwork, and personal growth in a unique Survivor: Lifesaver Edition format.

Rotary Club of Inverloch
A very big thank you to the Rotary Club of Inverloch for supporting and sponsoring Morrie Tatnall in his successful application to attend RYPEN.
RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) is a 3 day camp for 14-17 year olds focused on building confidence, discovering their potential and growing personally. RYPEN 2026 will be held at the Briars Outdoor Ed Camp, Mount Martha in September.

Member Protection Officers (MPO’s)
Are you passionate about making a difference in our community? The Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club seeks dedicated individuals to fill vital volunteer positions within our Club. We are currently seeking individuals for the following position:
Member Protection Officers
As a Member Protection Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for our valued club members. The role of the MPO is to support members and protect them and the club’s wellbeing, to provide member welfare education and support. This position requires excellent communication skills, empathy, and a genuine commitment to fostering a strong sense of community. Training will be provided by Life Saving Victoria.
By becoming a volunteer at the Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club, you will not only contribute to the safety and enjoyment of our beautiful beach but also be part of a close-knit team of dedicated volunteers who share a common goal. Whether you have experience in these roles or are eager to learn, we welcome your interest.
