President’s Message
Hey Team,
As we start to feel the first hints of warmer weather this August, it’s an exciting time at Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club. I’m delighted to welcome our new Board Members and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to the fold. Your commitment and energy are already making a difference, and I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact you’ll bring to the club.
Our leadership team has been hard at work throughout the winter, laying the groundwork for what promises to be a fantastic season. In the coming months, we’ll be rolling out a range of programs and initiatives that we’re confident will enrich the experience for all our members.
I’m also thrilled with the great start we’ve had with Nipper and Bronze registrations—what a way to kick off the season! The strong interest shows just how much our community values being part of the ISLSC community.
A special congratulations goes out to our Awards of Excellence nominees and winners. Your achievements are truly outstanding and reflect the dedication and passion that make our club so exceptional. Well done to everyone!
I want to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all of our volunteers. Your dedication and hard work are the backbone of our club, and we couldn’t achieve what we do without you. As we move into the new season, we have a number of sub-committee positions available, and I encourage anyone interested to get involved and help us continue to grow and thrive.
Thank you all for your continued support. Enjoy this month’s read!
Warm reading!
Best Regards,
Glenn Arnold
ISLSC President
Seeking Member Protection Officers
Are you passionate about making a difference in our community? The Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club seeks dedicated individuals to fill vital volunteer positions within our Club. We are currently seeking individuals for the following position:
Member Protection Officer
As a Member Protection Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for our valued club members. The role of the MPO is to support members and protect them and the club’s wellbeing, to provide member welfare education and support. This position requires excellent communication skills, empathy, and a genuine commitment to fostering a strong sense of community. Training will be provided by Life Saving Victoria.
By becoming a volunteer at the Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club, you will not only contribute to the safety and enjoyment of our beautiful beach but also be part of a close-knit team of dedicated volunteers who share a common goal. Whether you have experience in these roles or are eager to learn, we welcome your interest.
If you’re ready to make a difference and be part of something special, please don’t hesitate to contact our Secretary, Angela Malan, at secretary@islsc.org.au or President Glenn Arnold at president@islsc.org.au.
Inverloch wins big at 2024 awards of excellence
On Saturday, August 10th, LSV held their annual Awards of Excellence presentation, the most prestigious event of the year. Inverloch was incredibly proud to have eight finalists up for an award.
Of our finalists, three Invy members won their respective categories:
- Janet Jones OAM Inclusion Award – Holly Foster (Starfish Nippers)
- Nipper Program Volunteer of the Year – Kate Simnett
- Dr Nigel Taylor ESM Innovation of the Year – Xavier Korbel (ILSAR)
This is a huge testament to the efforts these members have put in throughout the last 12 months. We are incredibly proud of our members and grateful for the continued dedication shown to our Club.
Congratulations to our other finalists and nominees: Chris Malan (Administrator of the Year), Jordan Tomas (Beach Lifeguard of the Year), James Harman (Junior Lifesaver of the Year), Joshua Robinson (Youth Lifesaver of the Year), Xavier Korbel (Trainer of the Year), David Morris (Coach of the Year), Tim Robinson (Emerging Official of the Year), Gayle Morris (Official of the Year) and Isaac Korbel (Junior Lifesaver of the Year).
Overall, this was Inverloch’s most successful Awards of Excellence of recent years, and we can’t wait to see what our members achieve next season. Well done all!
Upcoming LSV Preseason Forum
The LSV Preseason Forum is the best way to get up to date knowledge about the upcoming season – straight from the source! The forum will include presentations on lifesaving services, membership & leadership development, member training, welfare and wellbeing, club management and a full-day nipper forum running alongside.
Having our members attend functions like this is a vital step in being prepared for the season. It will be hosted at the Crown Promenade, Southbank on Saturday 14 September 9:00am – 4:15pm.
If you would like to attend, please contact Xavier at engagement@islsc.org.au. The attendance cost will be covered by the Club.
Member Communications – Slack Team App
Inverloch SLSC is transitioning to Slack Team App for all member communications. If you are a patrolling member, you should have received an email to set up your Slack Team App account. It is essential that you complete this ASAP to receive accurate information regarding patrolling matters.
Non-patrolling members, including nippers/parents, will be receiving emails in the coming months regarding setting up their account. Nipper parents may already have an account.
If you have any questions or issues regarding this process, or you are a patrolling member who has not received an email to set up a Slack Team App account, please contact Xavier at engagement@islsc.org.au.
As we approach the season, our Club calendar will become more populated with events. You can access it here: https://islsc.org.au/season-calendar/.
Operations Update
Bring on another cracker of a season! I’m back again as your Club Captain for season 2024/25. There’s a lot of exciting plans that have been cooked up across the winter period and we cannot wait to introduce new opportunities, growth and fun to this new patrolling period. Our aim this season is to focus on sustaining the things patrollers enjoy, and supporting them in their patrolling success whilst also bringing about new initiatives that will enhance patroller efficiency, effectiveness and greater response to our community.
Thank you to all those that filled out the end of season patrol survey in April. This has aided us in creating the patrol roster for the coming season. If you didn’t complete this and would like to patrol, or haven’t patrolled in a while, Please email Holly at patrolmanager@islsc.org.au so we can add you to the roster. The roster will be published in the coming weeks.
Keep your eyes peeled for more information to come. Keen to see you around the Club.

Club Captain

Competition Update
Hey, I’m Kyler, the new competition coordinator. I’m so grateful to have received this role and super excited to be part of the team. Looking forward to the amazing season to come and seeing our members having a crack at some competitions!
Funding Focus
We are incredibly excited to share that members of our Board and SLT have been able to secure some fantastic grants:
- Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) Grant:
This is a large contribution towards essential items we need to operate as a Surf Life Saving Club. This season, this grant will be used for board storage, an externally mounted AED, various rescue boards, IRB motors, IRB storage rack, motor wash tub, hose reels, and more! - SLSA Inclusive Beaches Grant:
This grant includes funds toward equipment for Inverloch’s Starfish nippers program, the life saving skills program designed for children and young adults with a disability. We are stoked to be able to have additional nipper boards thanks to this grant!
We are also extremely grateful to share we have received $1,300 from public donations over the past couple of months:
- $1,000 received from an Inverloch Nipper family
- $300 from the Anderson Inlet Stamp Collecting club
This will go a long way towards valuable equipment and training. Thank you!
