From The Editor
Hi everyone,
Summer is (nearly!) here and Inverloch SLSC is getting busy already. Patrols have started, training is humming, social events are lined up, and there are plenty of ways for you to plug in: on the beach, in the clubhouse, and around town.
In this edition you’ll find the 2025/26 Patrol Roster, requal dates, and training opportunities, plus updates from our PLT weekend, gear inspection, and the ESF wellbeing workshop. Please take a moment to check your patrol dates, complete the Patrol Survey, and lock in a requal if you haven’t yet. Doing those three things early makes the rest of the season run a lot smoother for our patrollers.
You’ll also see a big focus on getting involved off the sand:
- Helping at our Inverloch Hub pop-up in December
- Joining the club crew at Inverloch parkrun for National Water Safety Day
- Signing up as a runner or volunteer for the Inverloch Running Festival
- Putting your hand up for Nippers, school programs, and requal support
On top of that, we’ve got a full social calendar ready to go, from Back to Invy through to a Cocktail & Canapé Night. These events keep the club connected and help raise funds, but they also rely on members who are willing to give a few hours here and there.
If you take one thing from this newsletter, let it be this: pick one extra thing to get involved in this season. A patrol, a training course, a fun run, a social night, a Nippers role – whatever fits you. It all adds up, and makes our club better.
See you on the beach, at the club, or out and about.
Xavier Korbel
Director – Member Engagement
Patrol Roster Available
We’re excited to share that the 2025/26 Patrol Roster is now live!
You can view the live version here.
Patrol Season Dates: Patrols will run from Saturday 8 November 2025 to Sunday 19 April 2026. Please take a moment to review the roster carefully and add your patrol dates to your calendar now. Note that all dates have been added to Team app, and the club calendar.
Please note that our first patrol being 8/9 November is for our Patrol leadership team training weekend.
Patrol Survey
If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to fill out the survey. Your feedback helps us make sure everyone is allocated to a patrol team and that we’re planning effectively for the season ahead.
Public Access Defribrillator At ISLSC
We’re pleased to let all members know that a Public Access Defibrillator has now been officially installed at the club. You’ll find it on the wall to the right of the front door, accessible 24/7 for both members and the wider community.
What’s inside the unit?
- Defibrillator (AED)
- Bleed control kit
While it can increase confidence, no formal training is required to use an AED, and anyone should make use of it if needed. The unit is fully registered and should now appear on the GoodSAM app.
The unit is alarmed and a siren will be triggered upon the door opening. Note that emergency services are not notified automatically and any user should phone 000 without delay.
This is a first aid resource available to the community, even when the club is unattended. Please treat it with care. It is a vital lifesaving resource and must remain in perfect working condition.

ISLSC Pop-Up at the Inverloch Hub
Throughout the entire month of December, the Club will have a dedicated pop-up space at the Inverloch Hub community centre.
This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community, chat about our summer programs and patrols, and fundraise through merchandise sales. To make this a success, we need active members (16+) to volunteer to help run the space.

Let’s turn the Hub red and yellow this December!

To celebrate National Water Safety Day (Dec 1), the Club is heading to the Inverloch parkrun on Saturday, December 6!
We want to show up – with a dash of red and yellow if you like – and remind our community about the importance of staying safe at the beach this summer. All members are welcome to come along to run or walk the 5km course and fly the flag for the club.
Event Details:
- When: Saturday, December 6 (7:45 AM for an 8:00 AM start)
- Where: Rotary Centenary Park (parkrun start line)
Want to help on the ground? We are looking for members to help engage with the community on the day. If you can help, please contact Kirk at communityrelations@islsc.org.au.

Operations Update

Working Bee
We have kicked off the season with a fantastic Working Bee! Thank you to every member who rolled up their sleeves, from scrubbing, painting, sorting, organising and fixing, all of these efforts have given the club a much needed refresh. Your time and effort help keep our spaces safe, functional, and ready for an incredible summer. We’re so grateful for this community.
Thanks to Jake Hetrelezis and Morrie Tatnall for organising the event!!

PLT Weekend
Our Patrol Leadership Team came together for an energising and productive PLT Weekend. Across training sessions, scenario work, leadership development, and team bonding, the enthusiasm was so amazing to see. This weekend set the tone for a strong, connected, and rescue-ready season. A massive thank-you to all PLT members for investing your time and passion into leading our patrols.

Gear Inspection
The annual LSV Gear Inspection was a success! Our volunteers worked well together to ensure all rescue equipment met LSV standards and was ready for the busy months ahead. From boards to IRBs to first aid, everything was checked and documented. Thanks to our Gear & Equipment team and all helpers for keeping our lifesaving operations rescue-ready.

ESF – Wellbeing Workshop
We were proud to host the Emergency Services Foundation for a deeply valuable Wellbeing Workshop. Club members, PLT, other clubs leadership members and local emergency personnel joined us for an evening focused on mental health, resilience, and supporting ourselves and each other through the pressures of lifesaving and emergency response. Thank you to ESF for delivering such a meaningful session and to everyone who attended.

Inverloch Lifeguards
Pictured here are some of our Invy Lifeguards who just completed their lifeguard mission fitness assessment and are back on the beach! Life Saving Victoria’s professional lifeguards are now patrolling parts of Bass Coast daily throughout the summer, working alongside volunteers to keep the community safe. This year we have an incredible 10 Inverloch club members who are lifeguarding this season. So proud of all of these members.

First Patrol of the Season
Flags are up! Our first patrol of the season looked a little different this year, a small but mighty team of eight dedicated volunteers braved the cooler weather and quieter beach to kick things off. Even with minimal swimmers and less-than-ideal conditions, the team worked seamlessly together and set a strong foundation for the months ahead. A huge thank-you to those who showed up and got us started: Isaac, Reid, Xav, Jules, Holly, James, Mathias and Kyler. We can’t wait for the season ahead. Well done Patrol 2.

GoodSAM – Please Download
If you haven’t already, we encourage all first-aid trained members to download the GoodSAM Responder App. It allows trained responders to be notified of nearby emergencies and can make a critical difference outside patrol hours or when you’re off-duty in town or surrounding areas. You can set your availability and the radius you’re comfortable responding within. As Inverloch does not have an Ambulance station, you could be the difference on someone’s worst day.
Training Update
Training at Inverloch SLSC has well and truly kicked off with multiple courses taking place over October and early November. Read along to hear about these amazing programs and some training opportunities coming up soon!
Kew High Bronze Medallion
Congratulations to the new Kew bronzies! A few weeks ago these students braved the conditions to learn about surf lifesaving, key rescue techniques and develop their first aid skills. Students gained their bronze medallion, surf rescue certificate or radio operator qualifications. We can’t wait to see you all on patrol!
Thank you to our amazing trainers; Bella, Kyler, Holly, and Jono. And thanks to our supporting trainers and water safety throughout the week; Josh, Xav, Milla, and James.

Train The Trainer Day
On Saturday the 1st of November our Inverloch Trainers, Assessors and Water Safety came together for Train The Trainer Day – a new event in our training calendar designed to prepare for the upcoming season and upskill our team. We had a fantastic turnout from both new and experienced members, and the enthusiasm everyone brought set the tone for what is going to be an amazing season of training.
Throughout the course of the day our trainers learnt about confident training techniques, responsive training, games to use on courses, how to manage welfare and keep candidates engaged and motivated. I would like to thank Lucy and David for their insightful and motivating sessions, the day was a huge success!

Calling all trainers!
We’re asking all trainers to allocate themselves to at least one requal date this season to help deliver sessions and support members through their updates. When you sign up, you’ll be rostered for the full day and assigned to a station – Bronze, SRC, IRB, or ART, etc, just like previous years, but with a little more structure to make things run smoothly.
This is also a great opportunity for newer or developing trainers to get involved and learn alongside our experienced team. The goal is to have a wide mix of trainers across each date to share the load and keep the energy high throughout the season.
Sign up to help deliver requals here: volunteersignup.org/PYMBM

In the course you will participate in mock searches, patient retrievals, and unpack real life emergencies to find out how they work!

Nippers
We already have so many Nippers signed up!! So exciting.
Enrolments close on 30th November, unless filled prior. For more information and how to enrol, visit: https://islsc.org.au/lifesaving/education/nippers/. We have strong numbers already booked, and the long-range tide forecast looks good. Be sure not to miss out!
Nippers Parent & Carer Volunteer Sign-Up – Summer 24/25
To make nippers work, we really need more then 300 pairs of hands on deck. On average, we require each parent / carer to sign up for two (2) tasks via the link below. We currently have a pressing need for 6, 7 & 8 year old Age Group Managers, BBQ Coordinator, Bar assistants, Bakers & Social event assistants, etc. In the sign-up, there is also a wonderful incentive to volunteer at the Kiosk with Claudia. Every shift a volunteer completes during the 2 weeks of Nippers leads to a donation of $45 to the Club!
Nippers Water Safety – Summer 24/25
We need more water safety! Please use the link below to register, and get your friends involved ! Note that you need to separately enrol in each option per this link:
Dates:
Prelim Swim – Will be conducted on the first day of nippers
Week 1 – 28,29,30 December
Week 2 – 2,3,4,6,7 January
Off Peak Nippers
Our Off-Peak Nippers program kicked off in October, and it’s been an incredible start. Running right through until December 3rd, the program has brought local families together each week for a relaxed, community focused introduction to beach and water safety.
With only a few weeks left, we’re so excited to keep the momentum going. The kids are growing more confident every session, and the energy on the beach has been amazing, rain, wind, or sunshine.
A huge thank you to our Age Managers, water safety team, and every volunteer who shows up after long days to support the program. And to our over 45 families, thank you for trusting us with your afternoons. We’re so proud of how far the program has come since October, and we can’t wait to finish the season strong.
Join Our Off-Peak Nipper Parent Committee (Low-Pressure, Community-Focused!)
As our Off-Peak Nipper program continues to grow, we’re looking ahead to a bigger and even more exciting 2025. Before the New Year, we’ll be releasing the dates and enrolments for our Term 1 and Term 4 programs, and to prepare, we’re hoping to expand our Off-Peak Nipper Parent Committee.
Now, when we say committee, we don’t mean a formal board or big monthly meetings. Think of it more as a small group of supportive parents who help shape the program, share ideas, and lend a hand where they can.
We’d love to welcome parents who are local, have a bit of spare time, or feel they have something to offer. You don’t need experience; we can teach you everything you need to know. What matters most is enthusiasm and a willingness to help our Nipper program thrive.
We’re looking for parents who might be interested in roles like:
- Water Safety (we’ll train you!)
- Age Managing / Group Support
- Admin & Behind-the-Scenes Assistance
- BBQ Organising
- General “I’m happy to help where needed!” helpers
By joining the committee, you’ll help us:
- Plan ahead for 2025
- Understand how many people we can upskill
- Grow the program sustainably
- Continue delivering a supportive, fun, community-focused experience for all families
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, or if you’re even curious about what it might involve please reach out to Holly Foster at clubcaptain@islsc.org.au.
