Youth Involvement Program (YIP's)
Retention of youth members in lifesaving is a difficult task for lifesaving clubs across Victoria. The Youth Involvement Program (YIPs) aims to overcome this retention issue and help develop and engage our young members.
YIPs was originally designed by Anglesea SLSC in 2002. It was then adopted by Lifesaving Victoria and has been implemented by clubs around the state. The YIPs program rewards participants for contributing to their club and the broader lifesaving community. It encourages participants to explore the different opportunities lifesaving has to offer.
The program consists of 3 levels; Bronze Silver and Gold. Each YIPs level has a set number of patrol hours and points that participants must obtain in order to complete the level. Points can be obtained over a range of categories and activities. The Gold level also requires completion of a community project that services either the Inverloch of broader surf lifesaving community.
Points are gained in the following areas:
- Lifesaving – e.g. patrols
- Development – e.g. gaining new awards
- Junior activities – e.g. water safety
- Youth activities – e.g. participation in LSV programs/camps
- Competition – e.g. participating in club champs or other lifesaving competitions
- Administration – e.g. taking on a club position
- Club activities – e.g. attending club functions
The program is for youth members holding a minimum of SRC. You will have five years to complete the program once enrolled, capped at age 20. Register at any time by completing the form below. Once registered you will receive an introduction email containing key documents and further details on how to log points and complete the program.
